I don't think anyone knows the correct number not even Stephen.

I can tell you that by the end of 2005 (there have been more written off since then) there were the following Tax'd or SORN'd. This does not tell you how many are roadworthy though...

GTA ATMO - 100
GTA TURBO - 200
Le Mans - 5
A610 - 42

There may be more which are not even Sorn'd I suppose hiding away in Barns or under tower blocks in South London  .

It would be good to see 40 or so 'considered' votes. Martin you just need to make a deduction for the last 4-5 years.

According to the national Motor Insurance Database there are

32 GTAs
17 A610s

Currently insured by UK motor insurers

I guess there will be more roadworthy cars stored off road and uninsured but I expected to find more than these.

There are 427 GTA and 48 A610 insurance settlements recorded. This does not make them cat A, B, C or D. It just means an insurance company has settled a claim.

There are 122 GTAs recorded as exported and 14 A610s

There are 147 GTAs and 11 A610s recorded as scrapped

Not all vehicles get recorded so it is difficult to draw conclusions from this information but it's the "official figures"

Hope this is of interest.

Interesting figures, I can't believe there are only 32 GTA's insured though that cannot be correct surely?

So judging on the approx numbers of 212 and 344 for GTA's Atmo and turbo, then taking scrap / exported numbers we are only talking a max of about 287 total Atmo + Turbo still kicking about, interesting. Come on MVS surely you can get to work and round that down to a nice number like 280 by the end of the year?

Do we actually know how many GTA's we account in this club - all in, on the road, off road any state and being split?

I account 2 piles of junk, 1 99% complete by association, and 1 scrapped... and the nations ration of engines, laugh
... A diamond is only a piece of coal that did well under pressure... PRV afflicted, may be I need to squeeze harder!!!!

Mine ain't insured according to the database.
It is though. Thought it might be because it was on a classic policy or maybe because it's not a primary car? Don't know much about insurance though so wouldn't mind getting to the bottom of it just in case PC plod stops me.

Mines on a classic policy and it says "YES" to it being insured. Have you told your insurance company you have changed the plate John?

By the way my current score is 2 saved 4 scrapped. I am a tad guilty about this one though

Yep, got all the documents through for the plate change (was over a year ago) and when it was renewed the plate change was reflected on the new certificate. Insured with Chubb Masterpiece Classic Insurance. I'll check up what's going on and carry my papers just in case.

Would agree at first that sounds suspect as we currently have over 100 members listed as having at least one GTA amongst their cars and some of them have multiple GTAs, often two or more, so maybe 150 in total.

However taking the cars here as an example. On Saturday there were 7 GTA variants (including visitors) in the garage but I think only two of them were taxed and one only recently, so less than 30%.

If that ratio applied to all the cars then that would make approx 43 taxed cars. So allowing for clerical errors and recent write offs 32 may not be that far out. Would explain why we haven't had a great number at shows recently!

As with any database, it is only as good as the information that goes into it. The insured information should be close to correct as a lot of effort is put into keeping this current but is far from 100% reliable.

There are lots of reasons for errors. I've had several A610s and the registration document have had descriptions including A6/10, GTA, Renault 4 seat saloon. I've had GTAs and one was described as Renault GTV. None of these show correctly in the database.

I've always declared cars that I've exported but I know of others who haven't.

I had one car (not an Alpine) that was described a red when it was black. It was an error from new, the car had always been black but the DVLA refused to change it without putting a change of colour marker on it so I left it red.

All we can draw from these figures is that these cars are getting very rare.

According to my records, in 2004 there were 156 registered owners of GTAs. By 2008 this was down to 86, these are people on my list that own a GTA but doesn't show if they own more than one.
As for myself I have two Turbos, both MOT'd, road taxed, insured and in use. I also have one Atmo that I am hoping to return to use once I have sorted the engine out. My guess is that at the moment there are probably about 150 GTAs left.
