My guess is that at the moment there are probably about 150 GTAs left

Seems a reasonable assumption and in line with mine. There are always a few suprises tucked away though!

Will see if we can get the register software up and running.

On those cars that have been exported, approx 14 GTA Turbos, 4 Atmos and 1 A610 live in Australia now, none of which have been written off in an accident to the best of my knowledge, yet!!! We do care for our precious Alpines.

I guessed in the 200-300 bracket expecting half would still be around, simply because rust is a little less of an issue compared to "normal" cars in the UK.

I own two of those and both are insured, there must be more than 30 others out there that are insured

...based only on random speculation....since i've been in the club i must have seen around 30 different gta's...and i don't get out much. Then i read posts in the forum and apparently there is some folk up north that have 'em so i guess that's the same again plus a few must make it 75......also someone told me once that there is some other club...perhaps they have around 30 that are not in both.... then there is a bunch or folk that don't do the car club thing, all them people that came up to me in the last 4 years claiming their next door neigbour had one, the two i saw at goodwood before i was an owner.......press = key....Hundred and twenty three i make it.....is there a prize :?:

I found the owner of another one today.

Ive been driving my GTA to work all week. And work on a modern business campus with 6 companies.
Anyway, a guy from one of the other companies comes up to me this morning as im parking.
Apparently his dad has a GTA V6 Turbo, in Red. In very good condition.
Allthough its locked away and covered up, since the guy has just hit 70 and has trouble driving it. Based in Oxford.

I've checked again this afternoon and there are now 34 on the insurance database. Sounds like there's a lot of these cars off the road if the numbers being talked about here are anywhere near correct.

It would be nice to think there are a few good ones locked away as so many of these cars have fallen into the "not worth repairing" category.

I will reveal my findings next week, but a few more "votes" would be good.

OK, I think voting is now closed.

Year Passes Failures
1986 9 7
1987 13 11
1988 30 25
1989 30 20
1990 20 8
1991 6 3
1992 4 4
1993 5 1
1994 5 2
Total 122 81

That is 203, as of 2007.
An interesting find, but I am sure it is riddled with inaccruacies.

How many of the ones that failed, would have been worked on and later passed? Does it take that into account? For instance, in 1992 4 cars failed and 4 passed. Does that mean that maybe only 4 1992 cars are on the road and all 4 failed but later passed or does this only take into account a first MOT test and not retests?

No idea at all, it is government data.

From the amount of recent breakers I guess you would have to assume that a reasonable proportion of the failures didn't get repaired.

From the commentry...

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MOT-IB-716%20BBC%20FOI%20Technical%20Note.pdf

i belive the data only details inital passes and fails, so if you failed and later repassed it is not counted.....
